Collision at Regents Boulevard and Kenwood Street

According to the Union City Police Department, a 15-year-old boy was struck by a driver who fled the scene near the intersection of Regents Boulevard and Kenwood Street at approximately 8:05 p.m. on September 28, 2026. Police state the teenager was crossing the street with his brother when the impact occurred.

Authorities reported that the pedestrian sustained a broken hip. He was transported to an area trauma center for treatment and was subsequently released.

Investigation and Vehicle Details

Law enforcement officials indicated the driver did not stop and was last seen traveling westbound on Kenwood Street. Investigators obtained surveillance video from a nearby residence but noted the vehicle's license plate was unreadable due to low-light conditions at the scene.

Based on the vehicle's shape and taillights, police believe the suspect vehicle is a newer model Honda CR-V. Union City Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, was in the area at the time, or possesses relevant dashcam or surveillance footage to contact Officer Ivan Toscano at 510-675-5567. Anonymous tips can be provided to 510-675-5207.

Steps After a Hit-and-Run

When a pedestrian is injured by an unidentified driver, families can take independent steps to protect their recovery options while the police investigate. Documenting medical treatments and promptly notifying the household's auto insurance provider can help preserve potential uninsured motorist (UM/UIM) claims, which may apply when an at-fault driver flees the scene.

Written comment from Andy Gillin

Hit-and-run collisions often leave families feeling as though they have no avenue for recovery, especially when poor lighting obscures a license plate. However, under California law, an injured pedestrian may be able to utilize their own household's uninsured motorist coverage, making it crucial to review all available policies early in the process.
