San Jose Zanker Road crash kills driver and seriously injures two passengers

San José police said both passengers were stabilized at a hospital after the October 8 crash near Daggett Drive.

What happened

A driver died and two passengers suffered major injuries in a single-vehicle crash near Zanker Road and Daggett Drive in San Jose early Thursday, October 8, according to police.

In its October 8 afternoon release, the San José Police Department said both passengers had been taken to a hospital and stabilized.

What police have reported

Officers responded at about 3:26 a.m. The preliminary investigation describes a gray 2005 Toyota RAV4 traveling south on Zanker Road before leaving the roadway, entering the center median and striking a wall.

The reason the vehicle left the road remains under investigation. Police said the driver died at the scene; the Traffic Investigations Unit is handling the investigation.

Getting the collision report

Call the SJPD Records Unit at (408) 277-4261 to ask about requesting the collision report by mail or in person. Because this collision involved a death, SJPD says its report cannot be released through the online service.

The department lists a person named as injured in the crash among those eligible to request a report; if you are helping an adult relative, ask the Records Unit about access.

For a mailed request, SJPD directs readers to its Vehicle Accident Report Request Form and requires a $16 check or money order payable to the City of San Jose. The mailing address is SJPD Records Unit, 201 W. Mission Street, San Jose, CA 95110.

Have the report number if known, the incident date, time and location, the names of people listed in the report and your basis for requesting it.
