E-Bike Rider Killed in Tully Road Truck Crash in San Jose
An adult man died after a dump truck struck his e-bike near Tully Road and Lanai Avenue in San Jose on September 3, 2026. Police responded around 7:45 a.m. Both vehicles had been traveling westbound, with the rider in the bike lane, according to San Jose Police Department's preliminary advisory.
The rider died at the scene. The truck driver stayed and cooperated with police, who reported no apparent alcohol or drug involvement. The advisory does not establish a final cause or who was legally responsible.
If this crash took someone you love, finding a police report may be only one of many things on your mind. You may also be making funeral arrangements, worrying about household income or trying to find support for a child. Here are some places to start.
Where can our family find grief support?
Kara offers free peer support for adults, children, teens and families coping with a death. The Palo Alto nonprofit offers individual and group support, with options that depend on current availability.
You can begin with a phone call or online request. Kara explains what happens when you contact its team, including how it helps you find suitable support. A trusted friend or family member can sit with you while you make that first contact.
Could there be help with the income our family has lost?
Social Security survivor benefits may provide monthly payments to qualifying family members of someone who worked and paid Social Security taxes. Eligibility depends on the person's work history and your circumstances. The official page lets you check who may qualify and how to apply.
If you know your loved one had life insurance or benefits through an employer, ask the insurer or benefits office how to start a claim and which documents it requires. You do not need to work out every possible benefit in one call.
For questions about financial losses caused by the crash itself, GJEL's California wrongful death guide explains the firm's work with surviving families. A lawyer can discuss whether a claim may be available, who may bring it and what information is needed. This particular family's legal options cannot be determined from a news report.
How do we get the Tully Road crash report?
For this incident, the police case number is 26-246-0165.
San Jose police require reports involving a death to be requested by mail or in person. They cannot be released through the department's online accident-report service. The SJPD report request instructions include the form, eligibility requirements and current fees.
Use the case number, September 3 date and Tully Road/Lanai Avenue location. Before submitting, ask Records what proof of relationship or authorization your request needs. The report may not be available yet.
If an insurer or benefits office asks for a death certificate, that is a separate document. Santa Clara County's certificate guidance directs families to the Clerk-Recorder for copies.
Do we need to figure out what the truck driver did first?
You do not need to investigate the crash yourself before contacting a lawyer. If you already have photos, witness messages or insurance letters, keep them available. It is fine to start a conversation with only the date, location and what you know.
GJEL's bicycle accident information explains questions about insurance and responsibility after a bicycle or e-bike crash. Its general guidance does not establish fault in this incident.
